In this sheltering exercise, a scenario will be employed in which a widespread power outage in Hampshire County requires a large scale shelter to be opened on the UMass Campus. Hampshire County MRC volunteers will be the primary staff of the shelter.
The purpose of this exercise is to evaluate volunteer activation and communications, volunteer job action sheets and just in time training. There will be a focus on resource access and utilization. The set up, functionality, and break down of assets housed at UMass will be tested. Medical control and command and coordination with University Health Services and the Hampshire County MRC volunteers will be trialed during this exercise. Participants will include Hampshire Medical Reserve Corps including Hampshire Emergency Animal Response Team, American Red Cross, Amherst Public Health, Amherst Animal Control, Hadley and Amherst Fire.

The MRC/DART Train-a-Thon is a comprehensive full day of training designed to assist members and new volunteers in satisfying basic training requirements quickly and conveniently. The training is co-sponsored by the Community Health Workers Alliance of Berkshire County and includes:

This three-day MEMA course is being held on November 7, 8, and 9, 2012. It provides training and resources for personnel who require advanced knowledge and application of the Incident Command System. This course expands upon information covered in the ICS-100 and ICS-200 courses and is intended for individuals who may assume a supervisory role in expanding incidents or Type 3 incidents.
The course has been officially created by MEMA in their training registration system. You must register directly through MEMA. ICS 100, 200, and 700 are prerequisites, all of which are available online.
The ICS-300 course and all of its prerequisites are free. Homeland Security will pay backfill or overtime for those who attend the class, which can include volunteers, under certain rules. If you are interested in pursuing backfill or overtime, or have any other questions, please contact:
