Stay Informed

Most communities may be impacted by several types of hazards during a lifetime. Americans may travel to areas impacted by hazards they may not be at risk of near their homes. Knowing what to do before, during and after an emergency is a critical part of being prepared and may make all the difference during an event.

Educate yourself and your family about your community’s emergency preparedness routine and resources. Check your municipal website and/or contact your municipalities’ Emergency Management Director (EMD) to find out:

  • Where are the nearest shelters in your community?
  • How will you get news if disaster strikes?
  • What are your community’s evacuation routes?
  • How will you get local emergency information?
